Description: Podium RVA seeks a Programs Director to oversee and expand Podium’s youth educational programs across Greater Richmond and the Tri Cities. This position combines the skills of hands-on mentoring and teaching with coordination, evaluation, and directorial oversight. A successful candidate is one who has a passion for writing, language, and who believes that healthy communication skills are a vital part in a child’s education, positive development, and social growth. Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 
  1. Oversee development and implementation of out-of-school time and co-curricular writing, communication, and future planning programs across Richmond, Henrico, Hopewell, and Petersburg, VA.
  2. Monitor program outcomes and provide on-going evaluation;
  3. Ensure programs follow trauma-informed care standards, promote meaningful learning goals aligned with state standards, and follow best practices for quality assurance;
  4. Support the preparation of materials such as fact sheets, newsletter articles, program data reports, and in other communications, such as preparing and gathering information for grant applications, Board presentations, and in fundraising support;
  5. Recruit, supervise, and train program volunteers, interns, and staff;
  6. Market programs, conduct outreach, and facilitate strategic partnerships with local youth-serving agencies, schools, and communities;
  7. Manage the collection, selection, and archival of youth writing submissions and communication projects for Podium publications and showcases.
 
Required Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, English or other writing/communication backgrounds, social work, public administration, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred. Must have at least 2 years of youth education or development experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with youth from Richmond, Hopewell, or Petersburg cities or Henrico County. Looking for a candidate demonstrating experience with program development, evaluation, and the ability to analyze and report on collected data. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong organizational, attention-to-detail, and interpersonal skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, digital communication, and demonstrate an ability to work both as a team member and to be a self-starting leader. Experience in volunteer management and with public speaking, conducting outreach, or public education preferred. As supervising programs across Greater Richmond and the Tri Cities is a requirement for the position, candidates must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and a reliable form of transportation.
 
Starting Salary:
$50,500.00 - $55,500.00 per year commensurate with experience. Full-time salaried, exempt position. Due to the nature of youth programming and events, some evening and weekend hours are required.

Youth build their confidence while improving their academic and professional communication skills in weekly workshops, quarterly publications, and annual showcase events.

Position Description: The Program Lead is responsible for hosting weekly after-school programs at local schools and youth development centers across Richmond, Hopewell, Petersburg, and in eastern Henrico County. This position will:
 

Prepare necessary resources for workshop facilitation

  1. Lead weekly educational groups for middle and high school aged youth
  2. Coordinate program assistant by assigning workshop facilitation responsibilities
  3. Revise and update curriculum units
  4. Type and edit youth written content for publications
  5. Collect and aggregate youth writing assessments and survey responses
  6. Submit daily reports and attendance for all programs facilitated
  7. conduct positive update parent calls
Required Qualifications:
  • Program Leads should be creative and adaptable to youth needs. Candidates must be able to lead groups of up to ten youth solo and groups of up to 20 youth with a program assistant.
  • Candidates must also have excellent written and oral communication and be comfortable delegating group responsibilities to their program assistant.
  • Six months to 1-year previous experience mentoring or educating teenagers is required.
  • Travel to host programs across Greater Richmond and the Tri Cities is also required. Program Leads must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and a reliable form of transportation.
    • Gas reimbursement is provided for travel to programs from the office and to and from the Tri Cities on a quarterly basis.
Expected Hours of Work: 9-month position, September 2024 – May 2025, with the option to stay on over the summer (June – Aug).
  • 20 - 22 hours a week, scheduled between 1 – 6:30pm, Mon – Thurs. Program times vary.
  • Due to the nature of youth programming and events, some evening and weekend hours are required. While most hours are conducted in person, at the Podium office or at a partner site, some program administration tasks can be conducted virtually.
Compensation: $20/hour
